  • 31.10.2012:Relieving of ITS Group A officers - issue pending before Delhi High Court:As the Additional Solicitor General representing DoT (Union of India) could not be present, the hearing has been adjourned to 7th November 2012.

  • 30.10.2012:Sick ITI seeks Rs 6000 cr - Report: Cash- strapped telecom equipment maker ITI Ltd has sent a proposal to the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) seeking financial assistance to the tune of Rs 6000 crore to manufacture and supply technology equipment for defence services and also to pay salaries to the staff, reports PTI. The report said that ITI which was a telecom equipment provider to the state owned telcos MTNL and BSNL wants to diversify as the orders from these telcos have gown down significantly. The government had tried to streamline the company but all its efforts have failed despite investing a whopping Rs. 4,000 crore into the company.

  • 29.10.2012:CHQ writes to CMD on Non- grant of 1st time Bound Financial up-gradation due on 01.10.2004 under TBP Policy 2007 to the BSNL Executives against whom no Vigilance Case was pending as on the due date: 'Therefore, the stipulation in Para (c) of the BSNL letter dated 20.9.2012 that, "Disciplinary cases of minor penalty, emanating beyond the due date of time bound upgradation, may not affect the grant of time bound upgradation" implying that disciplinary case of major penalty emanating beyond the due date may affect the grant of time bound upgradation, is not only contradictory to Para (b) but also to existing guidelines on sealed cover procedure. No judgment of any Court has advised such discrimination/differentiation between minor and major penalty cases emanating after the due date.' Read More...

  • 26.10.2012:BSNL plans to lease out CDMA network, hive off towers into separate company: State-owned BSNL plans to lease out its CDMA mobile network if the government approves this radical plan, its chairman and managing director Rakesh Kumar Upadhyay told ET. The company also plans to hive off its towers and other related infrastructure into a separate company and is eyeing additional revenues to the tune of Rs 1600 crore over the next five years by sharing these facilities, he added.   • 26.10.2012:BSNL, MTNL invite bids to review real estate assets: State-run telecom companies BSNL and MTNLBSE -0.18 % have invited bids from consultants to help them monetise their real estate holdings, a move aimed at recouping falling profits and revenues from their core business. The selected consultants will advise these companies in valuation of their properties, assessment of rental potential of various built-up spaces, development of vacant land parcels and disposing of assets, executives familiar with the matter told ET. While BSNL is set to finalise the consultant by November 15, the Indian arm of the London-based property consultantKnight Frank is the front runner to bag the MTNL contract, the executives said.(ET)

  • 25.10.2012:GOVT TO BEAR ONE-TIME SPECTRUM COSTS FOR PSUs: The Empowered Group of Ministers has also agreed to rescue telecom public sector companies BSNL and MTNL and has decided that the Centre will bear the cost for the one-time spectrum charge, estimated to be between 12,000 crore and 13,000 crore, which these companies will have to pay. Following EGo-M's earlier decision to levy a one-time fee prospectively on all airwaves held by telcos beyond the 4.4 MHz mark,both PSUs had approached the telecom department stating their inability to pay this amount.The DoT in turn had forwarded their case to the panel of ministers on spectrum and the latter has now asked the department to submit a separate proposal on this issue to the Cabinet. This move will enable them to continue to service their customers in their respective areas of operation, without necessitating fresh infrastructure investment. EGoM has directed that a separate proposal on the issue may be directly placed before the Cabinet for consideration, the minutes of the meeting added.

  • 21.10.2012:DoT proposal to keep non-optee Group A officers on permanent deputation/foreign service/encadrement in BSNL: The COS (Committee of Secretaries) meeting held on 27.9.2012 is reported to have not taken any decision on the proposal submitted by DoT in respect of non-optee ITS Group A officers. It is learnt that, based on the views expressed in the meeting, fresh proposal will be circulated by DoT among concerned Ministries and thereafter final draft will be prepared and putup before COS.

  • 08.10.2012:Gear makers in race to sell Rs 500 crore equipment to BSNL: Global network vendors Ericsson , Alcatel-Lucent , Huawei, ZTE and two Indian suppliers — Hyderabad-based Prithvi Information Solutions (PISL) and Sterlite Group — are in the race to sell Rs 500-crore of telecoms equipment to state-run BSNL for upgrading its country-wide landline network , two executives aware of the development told ET. The telecom PSU, which controls 70% of India's wireline turf, will shortly select two vendors for replacing its 38,000-odd fixed-line exchanges with next generation network equipment to transform BSNL's landline experience and future-proof the network. Bulk of its existing exchanges run on C-DoT technology while the rest are imported units, classified as "old tech".

  • 02.10.2012:Relieving if ITS Group A officers before 30th September 2012 as per Delhi High Court orders:BSNL's Application seeking further extension till the process of recruitment of DGMs is completed came up for hearing on 1.10.2012. The Hon'ble High Court is reported to have asked the DoT to file its reply within 3 weeks regarding its plan for redeployment of the ITS Group A officers and posted the case for 31st October 2012.

  • 02.10.2012:DoT to seek finmin nod to refund Rs 6,724.51 crore to BSNL for surrendered BWA airwaves:"DoT in-principle supports BSNL's request for a refund as it has paid more, but it will consult the finance ministry on whether this can be done before the surrendered broadband wireless airwaves are resold in a future auction," said Chandrasekhar. The telecom secretary conceded that the refund could stand deferred till the next fiscal if the finance ministry insists on "prior sale of surrendered airwaves in the 2.5 GHz band," since such an auction would only happen after April 2013.(ET)

  • 01.10.2012:AIBSNLOA CHQ's email to Cabinet Secretary on DoT proposal to keep non-optee Group A officers on permanent deputation/foreign service/encadrement in BSNL: Immediately after learning on 26.9.2012 that the Committee of Secretaries (COS) was to meet on 28th September 2012 to consider DoT's proposal for keeping the non-optee Group A officers on permanent deputation/foreign service/encadrement in BSNL, General Secretary has sent email to Cabinet Secretary with copies marked to other Secretaries, enclosing the earlier letter addressed to PM, with a view to draw their immediate attention to our views, before the COS meeting took place.
